Stovetop fire prompts temporary evacuation at downtown building

Several residents of a building on Gilmour Street downtown fled early Tuesday as heavy smoke filled the corridors of the four-storey building.

Firefighters arriving at the scene discovered a pot on the stove in an apartment kitchen was the source of the problem.

The fire had not extended to cupboards or walls and was brought under control shortly after.

There were no injuries.
