An Ottawa man turned himself into Toronto police on Sunday after he was named as a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run.
Toronto police issued a press release Sunday stating that Saeed Maravvej Torbati, 25, was wanted in connection with a hit-and-run in the city’s west end.
Police said a 56-year-old woman was struck by a black Mercedes Thursday as she crossed at the intersection of Markham and Nashdene roads.
After she was struck, police said the driver of the vehicle got out and, after a short period of time, returned back to the car and left the scene.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Torbati turned himself in hours after police named him as a suspect. Although he lives in Ottawa, investigators said Torbati frequently came to Toronto for business.
He was scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.
