From the 2016 Ottawa Report on Bicycling, released April 2:

412,000: Number of bike trips counted on the Laurier bike lane in 2015.

61,625: Number of trips across the Portage Bridge in its busiest month, July.

53: Percentage of people who feel safe along cycling and walking paths during the day (Ottawa Police 2015 Public Survey).

19: percentage of people who feel safe along cycling and walking paths after dark (Ottawa Police 2015 Public Survey).

365: Amount, in dollars, of the fine for “dooring” a cyclist – plus three demerit points.

110: Amount, in dollars, of the fine to a cyclist for non-compliance with bicycle light and reflector requirements.

44: Percentage increase in bicycle trips in Ottawa from 2010 to 2015.

3: Ottawa’s ranking among fastest-growing cycling cities worldwide. The two in which growth in cycling was larger were: Wroclaw, Poland, and San Francisco.

4,077: Number of male cyclists counted on multi-use paths.

1,894: Number of females counted on multi-use paths.

46: Percentage of those in a local cycling survey who said insufficient or inadequate infrastructure is a barrier to cycling in the city. (Survey of 132 respondents by Felicity Borgal.)

43: Percentage of those in a local cycling survey who said insufficient or in adequate snow clearance is a barrier to cycling in the city.

37: Percentage of those in a local cycling survey who said safety concerns are a barrier to cycling.
