Lakes in the upper Rideau River watershed are likely to rise in the next few days as our heavy April snow melts.
The water could reach flood levels on Bobs and Christie Lakes, the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority says.
“With the level of Bobs Lake close to the Full Supply Threshold, water has to be released. However, the release is being done as gradually as possible to minimize the impacts on both lakes. While levels are likely to increase downstream of Christie Lake, no flooding is expected,” it said in an announcement Thursday.
Other lakes may also have water level increases as this latest snowfall melts.
On the Ottawa River, levels have been above normal through the winter. While the water is expected to drop next week, it could increase again after that as water from far upstream reaches Ottawa.
The conservation authority asks everyone to be careful, and asks parents to warn their children of the danger.
