It was off with those long locks during the recent Shave for a Cure event at the University of Ottawa.

Brave souls stepped forward to have their heads shaved to support Childhood Cancer Canada, the country’s leading foundation dedicated to funding national childhood cancer research while delivering critical education, community and connectivity programs to children with cancer and their families.

The annual event at the U of O is organized by the university’s Faculty of Medicine group Smiling over Sickness.

Students raise money in return for shaving or cutting their hair, and if the hair that is cut is longer than eight inches it can usually be donated for wigs for cancer patients. This year’s Shave for a Cure included a group of four women who agreed to have their heads shaved for pediatric cancer research.
