Ottawa police have arrested four men in connection with the gangland slaying of Mohamed Najdi in January. The arrests were made Saturday afternoon. The men are in police custody and are expected to appear in court on Sunday.

Najdi, 28, a Crips gang member known to police, was shot in the back multiple times in a parking lot at Yule Manor Co-operative Homes on Claremont Drive, near St. Laurent Boulevard and Hemlock Road, on Jan. 10. Police believe it was a targeted killing related to gang activities. Najdi’s family home had been shot up the week before.

After he was shot in the parking lot, Najdi made his way to the road and pounded on doors of nearby residents, one of whom called 911. When first responders found him, Najdi was slumped on the ground, and he was pronounced dead at the Ottawa Hospital.

Najdi had been on police radar last year after he witnessed the shooting death of 21-year-old Sharif Said, who was gunned down in the middle of Tremblay Road in May 2015.

Najdi was arrested along with two other men in connection with that shooting, but Najdi was released without charges. At the time, police were concerned for Najdi’s safety and were aware there could be gangland retribution for his co-operation with the investigation.
