A fifth man has been charged in the gangland shooting death of Mohamed Najdi, along with four men who made the first appearance in an Ottawa court Sunday morning.

A murder charge has now also been laid against Mohamed Mohamed, 32.

Meanwhile four men arrested Saturday appeared before a judge by video link. They are Ali Elenezi, 18, also known as “Montana,” Lual Lual, 26, also known as “Gorilla,” Alaa Asiri, 33, and Mohamud Yusuf, 25.

Najdi, 28, was a Crips gang member who was shot in the back in January. He knocked on neighbours’ doors for help but was dead by the time paramedics reached him.

Mohamed Mohamed is in custody elsewhere but has not appeared in court in Ottawa.

All five men face one count of first degree murder and one of kidnapping.

More to come.
