They’re packing the patios in the ByWard Market and playing street hockey in Hintonburgh. Across the city, the winter-weary headed outdoors Saturday to enjoy the long-awaited arrival of warm spring weather.
By mid-afternoon, it was 16 degrees and sunny, and it was expected to climb to 17 C. It has been a long time since Ottawa has been that warm: Dec. 24, 2015, to be exact, a freakishly warm Christmas Eve when the temperature hit 17.
Saturday’s balmy weather was far from the record of 28.8 degrees set in 2002.
But still, the last patches of snow are melting fast. And by Sunday, we can expect a glorious high of 21, with more sun. Chance of rain? Nil, according to Environment Canada.
Enjoy it while it lasts. Monday, a few showers may arrive, with a forecast of 15 and a 40-per-cent chance of rain. But by midweek, Ottawa should be back to temperatures in the upper teens.
