TORONTO — An Ontario Progressive Conservative who posted fake constituent testimonials on his website and made inappropriate comments about a Liberal MP is taking a leave from the provincial legislature to receive sensitivity training.
PC Leader Patrick Brown says Jack MacLaren’s responsibilities, including his role as critic of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, will be reassigned.
MacLaren gained notoriety recently for making a sexist joke about Liberal MP Karen McCrimmon at a fundraising event, and later came under fire for the fake constituent testimonials.
Brown says there is no room for anything less than respect and tolerance in the party and in society.
MacLaren last week issued an apology and took his website down in response to the growing anger, but has so far refused to answer questions about the incidents.
Brown says MacLaren’s punishment will remain in effect until appropriate corrective action has been taken.
