A four year old allegedly abducted by her father early Monday morning was being assessed after a van she was travelling in crashed near a truck stop along Highway 401 near Pembroke.

According to Renfrew paramedics, an Orgne emergency helicopter landed and was awaiting a decision from emergency responders about whether to airlift Julia Dela Cruz for treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.

Michael Nolan, chief paramedic and director of emergency services for the County of Renfrew, said details from the site were constantly changing. He said Dela Cruz, who had been missing since around 4:30 a.m. Monday, was with emergency responders who were carefully assessing her status.

York Regional police alleged Dela Cruz was abducted by her father after he forced his way into his ex-wife’s house at about 4:20 a.m. Monday.

Const. Andy Pattenden of York Regional police confirmed her father, Mario Rodrigues, 35, was in police custody.

Pattenden said he hadn’t been updated about the condition of the girl yet.

Police have not confirmed whether they were in pursuit of Rodrigues at the time.

More to come.
