The National Defence building at 555 Boul. de la Carrière in Gatineau has been evacuated and the busy street closed by police this morning while emergency responders investigate reports of a fire in the building.
According to police, this is strictly a fire call and closing the roadway, which leads to the Casino du Lac Leamy, as well as evacuating the building has been done as a preventative measure.
Police began by trying to close just one lane of the road at about 8 a.m., but heavy traffic and major delays forced them to shut access to the street between Highway 5 and Boulevard Saint-Raymond.
Motorists are being warned to avoid the area until the investigation is complete and fire crews have cleared.
