NEWMARKET, Ont. Charges have been laid in a case that sparked an Amber Alert on Monday.
York Regional Police say a 35-year-old Toronto man is accused of abduction, breaking and entering, and two counts of assault after he allegedly forced his way into the home of his four-year-old daughter and her mother north of Toronto and took the girl without consent.
An Amber Alert was issued about four hours later. It was lifted after the vehicle the father and daughter were travelling in rolled over in Pembroke.
The girl was airlifted to Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. She has since been released; her father was still in hospital on Thursday with minor injuries.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate. The Special Investigations Unit is the civilian oversight agency responsible for investigating circumstances involving police that result in a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault of a civilian.
A four-year-old girl allegedly abducted by her father early Monday morning is being assessed after a van she was travelling in crashed near a truck stop along Highway 41 near Pembroke Monday April 18, 2016. The amber alert was issued in Aurora Ontario and the child was airlifted to CHEO Monday.
