Ottawa cyclists are being asked to use their smartphones and other GPS devices to track their travels, creating a map of where people cycle most (and least) in the city.
A company called Strava Metro has teamed up with Citizens for Safe Cycling, promising to track cyclists for all of 2016.
Strava is a free program in which people rack where and how far they run, cycle, walk or ski, using GPS.
They can upload this anonymously, and Strava combines the data from many contributors to create a map.
Ottawa and Gatineau have both agreed to acquire Strava’s cycling and walking data, Citizens for Safe Cycling says.
