More than 20 Smiths Falls residents have been left homeless after a fire ripped through a Robinson Street rowhouse late Friday night.
A town fire official confirmed crews were called to the complex at around 11:15 p.m. Friday to battle the blaze that affected 10 units in the old building. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Displace families are receiving assistance from the Canadian Red Cross; and the public is reaching out through a Smiths Falls Facebook group to offer support to those who lost their homes.
Also, several community organizations have offered support to help the fire victims rebuild, including Zendragon Gym at 39 Chambers St. which is accepting donations of essentials like food, clothing and hygiene products and at their location next to Giant Tiger, where they are holding a free barbecue Saturday at 1 p.m.
