One person is dead following a crash along a small stretch of Highway 17 near Arnprior on Monday.
According to paramedics, a car was passing through a construction zone when the driver lost control of the vehicle around 11:30 a.m. and struck two people standing at the side of the road.
One of the pedestrians died at the scene. The other had life-threatening injuries and was air-lifted to an Ottawa hospital by Ornge helicopter ambulance services.
The Ontario Provincial Police closed the stretch of Highway 17 from Campbell Drive to Calabogie Road west of Arnprior, while it conducts an investigation into the crash. A detour was in place.
Two occupants travelling in the vehicle that hit the pedestrians received minor injuries as a result of the crash.
