A blaze on Spadina Avenue in the Hintonburg area early Wednesday morning that caused more than $1 million in damages has been ruled accidental.

The investigator’s report lists total damages to the three houses destroyed at $900,000 and the cost of the lost contents of the homes at $225,000.

Nineteen people were displaced by the fire but no one was injured.

Fire services spokesperson Danielle Cardinal, among others, applauded the actions of hero dog, Moss, who alerted her sleeping owners to the blaze. Moss’ owners were able to flee the house and call 911.

The quick intervention of fire crews was also credited with keeping the blaze from spreading to adjoining buildings.

The investigator determined that the fire started on the back deck of the second level of 24 Spadina Ave., but no cause or possible ignition sources were identified.

From 24 Spadina Ave., the blaze quickly spread to 22 Spadina Ave. and 26 Spadina Ave.

Anyone affected by the fire in need of assistance or support can contact 2-1-1 to be connected with The Salvation Army and The Red Cross.
