COMING UP

Music Matters is a community music program for adults living with dementia and their caregivers. Its first public performance will be at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage on Sunday, May 1, from 2-3 p.m. Over eight weeks, 14 participants collaborated with two local musicians — Juno award-winning percussionist Jesse Stewart and jazz singer and songwriter Julia Churchill — to create an innovative performance that will include collaboratively developed original music and some favourite melodies from the past. All proceeds from the performance will go toward continuing to offer the “Music Matters” program in the community at no charge to participants. Tickets for the NAC performance are $25 and can be purchased here. For more information about Music Matters, contact Tracy Luciani at artswellottawa@gmail.com or phone 613-250-0642. … The Olde Forge Community Resource Centre is seeking board members. It would like to hear from anyone interested in helping make a community support agency better and stronger. It’s particularly interested in candidates with fundraising experience and/or with a social media background. Please contact executive director Sue Walker at 613-829-9777 or by email at s.walker@oldeforge.ca . To learn more about The Olde Forge, visit www.oldeforge.ca . … Soi Dog Canada is a non-profit group in support of Soi Dog Foundation that helps homeless, neglected and abused dogs and cats in Thailand, working hard to stop the horrors of the illegal dog meat trade in Asia, to help end cruelty to dogs and improve their welfare. It’s holding a fundraiser on May 1 and will be selling Mother’s Day cards for $5 each at Pet Valu, located at 1980 Ogilvie Rd. in Gloucester. All proceeds will go to Soi Dog Foundation to be used to help animals in need. Check out www.soidog.org for more info about the organization.
