Ottawa – Former Deputy City Manager Steve Kanellakos returns to work at the City of Ottawa today as City Manager.
Mr. Kanellakos, who left Ottawa a year ago to take a position as the City Manager of Vaughan in the Greater Toronto Area, was unanimously appointed to the position by City Council on February 8.
“The City of Ottawa is delighted to welcome Steve back home to pick up where he left off and help us build an even better national capital,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “Steve has earned the trust and respect of City Council, City staff, residents and businesses through his years of service and hard work. His leadership will be a tremendous asset during such a pivotal time in Ottawa’s history.”
Mr. Kanellakos has served in municipal public service for more than 30 years, starting in the former Gloucester Police Department 1985. He began working for the City of Ottawa in 2000. As Deputy City Manager for City Operations from 2008 to 2015, he was responsible for the majority of the City’s workforce.
“I am excited to be returning to the City that first drew me to public service, a City that I love and that I am proud to serve,” said Kanellakos. “I am thrilled to be part of this exciting time for the City, as we lay the foundation with major projects that will change the face of Ottawa.”
