Trudeau appoints new national security advisor

Justin Trudeau has filled one of the most important posts in his new government; that of national security advisor.

Daniel Jean will leave his post as deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, to fill the job recently vacated by Richard Fadden. Jean’s appointment will be effective on May 16.

Jean’s post will be taken by Ian Shugart, currently deputy minister of Employment and Social Development. And Louise Levonian, get a promotion from her post as senior associate deputy minister of Employment and Social Development and COO of Service Canada, to assume the top job at Employment and Social Development.

In another move, Janine Sherman moves from assistant secretary to the cabinet (senior personnel) in the Privy Council Office to become deputy secretary to the Cabinet, effective immediately.
