Responding to Wildfires in Fort McMurray

A mild winter and dry conditions led to the sparking of a wildfire in Fort McMurray, Alberta, on Sunday, May 1. Close to 90,000 people have been evacuated from the city and surrounding areas so far.

The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada has two churches in Fort McMurray: Fort City Church and Native Fellowship Church. All of the church leaders and members are safe and out of harm's way. It’s confirmed that people of Fort City Church have lost homes.

The following is part of an email from a sister:

Sisters and Brothers,

I am compelled to write to you and encourage you to please let us pray for the people of Alberta especially those escaping the fire in Fort McMurray. In James he reminds us the Elijah was person like us, who prayed fervently for the rain to stop and it did and prayed for it to rain and it did: ( James 5:17- 18 )

If we humble ourselves and confess our sins and pray for our country and the citizens of this land, I am certain that God will hear us and bring the rain. Let us ask what we need to do: what is His will.

Let us pray for quenching rains to fall on the fire that is threatening Fort McMurry and the surrounding towns and reserves.

Also pray what we need to do to help those who have run in fear from the fire.

Friends our land is burning. Let us cry out to the Lord and seek His help and His guidance.

Such things (fires in Alberta) are a clear call to our nation to.repent and turn to God. Luke 13.1-5. It is humbling because we are helpless without His intervention. By all means let's pray for the fires of revival. But there can be no true revival without deep repentance. This is a precondition to the outpouring of blessing that we seek.
Lord in your mercy send the rain.
