Ottawa – The Mackenzie King Bridge, which runs over the Rideau Canal between the Rideau Centre and the National Arts Centre, will get a refresh this spring.

Traffic lanes will be reduced starting on May 10 to allow workers to maintain and repair the expansion joints, rehabilitate the asphalt on Slater Street from Elgin Street up to the first expansion joint, and carry out minor repairs to the retaining wall on Waller next to the old jail. A vehicular lane and a cycling lane will be maintained at all times. Work will occur until early August 2016.

The work is not expected to impact OC Transpo service at Mackenzie King Station. Access to the Rideau Centre, the Shaw Centre, National Defence Headquarters and the National Arts Centre will be maintained at all times. The only pedestrian detour will be around the retaining wall at Waller, while it is an active work area. Work on the retaining wall will only be carried out during off-peak hours to minimize impacts on transit.
