Police are hunting for a man they consider armed and dangerous after a shooting Tuesday night left the mother of his child in hospital and another man dead.

Police say Jonathan (Johnny) Ranger, 32, is a suspect in the shooting of Katrina Galloway and a male victim at a townhouse on Farriers Lane, not far from South Keys.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene around 9:35 p.m. There, they found the victims – a man in his 30s and the 27-year-old Galloway – both suffering from gunshot wounds. The pair were taken to the trauma centre, but the man did not survive.

His identity has yet to be released, as police were still trying to notify his next of kin. His relationship with the other victim and the suspect was not immediately clear.

Galloway, meanwhile, was in serious condition when she arrived at hospital.

Ranger and Galloway have a daughter together.

They were also charged together after a police raid in Vanier in 2012. The raid turned up a 9-mm handgun, eight grams of coke, about 500 oxycodone tablets and weed.

Ranger has a past conviction for kidnapping and extortion as well.

He is described as white, six-feet tall and 251 pounds, with a heavy build and dark, brown balding hair and brown eyes.

A man told this paper his wife had heard a female voice screaming “help me,” Tuesday and heard what sounded like four or five fireworks before police vehicles descended on the scene en masse.

Neighbours were out surveying the scene from their porches Tuesday night.

This is the city’s eighth homicide of 2016. That’s more than Ottawa had in all of 2015.
