He’s no longer in charge of patrolling the Canadian parliamentary precinct, but it seems that Kevin Vickers still has the quick reflex that served him so well during his tenure as Sgt-at-Arms.

The Irish Independent reports that Vickers – who now serves as Canada’s ambassador to the Emerald Isle – “was the first to react” when a protester interrupted a ceremony at a Dublin cemetery to commemorate British soldiers who died in 1916.

According to the paper, Vickers “quickly tackled the man and physically moved him away.”

An unidentified witness told the Independent that the man “just ran forward and started screaming ‘It’s a disgrace.’”

“He was tackled by somebody, and it was only after that I realized it was the Canadian ambassador,” the witness said.

Vickers was celebrated as a hero for his actions during the Oct. 22 shootings on Parliament Hill.
