A 45-year-old man has been charged with operating an unsafe motor vehicle after a wheel on his car flew off and struck an oncoming vehicle on Highway 417 near Parkdale Avenue.
According to police, the westbound car lost a wheel at about 9:15 a.m. and it flew over the middle barrier into the eastbound lanes.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the westbound vehicle is scheduled to appear in an Ottawa courtroom on June 24.
