The Stairwell Carollers have announced that Charlie Watson is this year’s winner of the choir’s music scholarship.

The Grade 12 student at Canterbury High School plays piano and trumpet, and also sings in the male chorus. Watson, who enters the University of Toronto music department in performance in the fall, receives a $1,000 award from the registered charity.

The Stairwell Carollers, through CD and ticket sales, have donated more than $130,000 in music scholarships to students and gifts to local charities.

The choir is also about to present $2,000 to the Ottawa office of Parkinson Canada. From diagnosis to discovery, Parkinson Canada guides the way for Canadians to live well with Parkinson’s disease through education, advocacy and support services, and by funding ongoing research. The Carollers will make the presentation to Parkinson Canada at their spring concert at Saint Barnabas Church (corner of James and Kent streets) on June 4, 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door for $20 or in advance for $15 from The Leading Note, 370 Elgin St.; Compact Music, 190 & 785 1/2 Bank St.; Books on Beechwood, 35 Beechwood Ave., or online at www.stairwellcarollers.com/Concerts.html.

The Carollers’ latest CD, O magnum mysterium, will be on sale at the concert.
