AccessAbility Day 2016 to highlight the City’s new multi-year accessibility plan

Ottawa – Mayor Jim Watson will welcome the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, and Parliamentary Assistant Marie France Lalonde, MPP Ottawa-Orléans to proclaim AccessAbility Day in Ottawa. Members of City Council, special guests and residents will participate in an Accessibility Initiatives Showcase to highlight the City of Ottawa Municipal Accessibility Plan (COMAP) that sets a course for 2016 to 2020. Minister Qualtrough will highlight the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund Call for Proposals launched on May 31, 2016. AccessAbility Day 2016 promises to be informative, engaging and entertaining with inclusive painting, music and more.

Official Opening Ceremony – Andrew Haydon Hall (Council Chambers), from 10 to 11:15 a.m.

Emcee Adrian Harewood, of CBC News Ottawa, will host the 13th annual AccessAbility Day in Ottawa for an assembly of stakeholders, experts, and residents of all abilities who support and share an interest in increasing accessibility. The theme of this year’s conference is Charting our Course to highlight the 2016 – 2020 City of Ottawa’s Municipal Accessibility Plan.
