A 23-year-old Ottawa man is facing drunk driving-related charges after a crash with a parked car in Orléans early Sunday morning left a teen with devastating injuries.

The 18-year-old woman remained in critical condition Tuesday.

Police said that her subcompact car was parked in the driveway of a house on Viseneau Drive at 6:37 a.m. when it was struck by another vehicle.

She was then trapped and had to be freed by firefighters — unconscious but breathing — after a street light toppled on her car.

The driver of a grey four-door sedan did not need to be hospitalized.

Tanner Paine, 23, was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

A neighbour who photographed the crash said Sunday that residents have complained to City Hall for years about crashes that land vehicles on residents’ front lawns while traffic calming measures have been promised but not delivered.

Coun. Jody Mitic later tweeted that traffic humps will be installed this summer.
