Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Ottawa and the surrounding area, warning residents of possible lightning and hail.
Storms are expected to develop Thursday afternoon in the Gatineau, Petawawa, Pembroke, Cobden, and Ottawa areas, ahead of an approaching cold front. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe this afternoon with damaging winds and large hail as the main threats.
The threat is expected to end early Thursday evening.
Environment Canada warns large hail can damage property and cause injury, and to go indoors “when thunder roars.” Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
Continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #ONStorm.
