Rugby players worked out on Rowan’s Pitch for the first time Saturday, named in honour of Rowan Stringer, the 17-year-old athlete who died in 2013 of complications from concussions.
Rowan’s parents, Gordon and Kathleen Stringer, were on hand for the noon-hour ceremony in the middle of a busy day of activity on the field at Barrhaven’s Ken Ross Park.
Players from Barrhaven Scottish Rugby Club and local community leaders lent their support to the proceedings.
Rowan’s story inspired Rowan’s Law which will pass the Ontario Legislature on Tuesday.
The law is meant to ensure greater awareness and better treatment for concussion-related injuries in the province.
