An 18-year-old man is dead and police are interviewing a person of interest after they were called to investigate a disturbance at a house in Maniwaki early Sunday morning.
Quebec provincial police were called to a residence on Cartier Street around 5 a.m. Sunday, responding to complaints of loud noise and a gathering of young people.
When they arrived, they found a man unconscious on the street, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim as 18-year-old Bret Jerome, from Kitigan Zibi.
Police were interviewing a 22-year-old at the residence, who is also from Kitigan Zibi.
Police said no formal charges have yet been laid, and major crime detectives are in the process of interviewing “numerous” witnesses, according to Surete Du Quebec spokesman Sgt. Marc Tessier.
Tessier said more information may be released later Sunday.
“We are trying to determine the circumstances of what happened,” he said.
