Portage Bridge closed Monday morning as protest ties up traffic between Hull and Ottawa

A protest is tying up traffic and causing road closures between Hull and downtown Ottawa around Parliament Hill this morning. The Portage Bridge was closed around 7:30 a.m. as a protest by aboriginal groups that began in Hull continued toward Ottawa. There are about 500 people in the protest, which was expected to arrive at Rideau Hall on Sussex Drive by 9 a.m., said Ottawa police. Police were not able to provide a full description of the route, but motorists might want to avoid the area around the Portage Bridge, east along Wellington Street, and Sussex Drive.
