A 59-year-old Val-des-Monts man has been released on $500 bail and barred from using his mechanic’s tools away from his job after a man was arrested driving a stolen bulldozer in Gatineau Saturday night.

Gatineau police said Glenn Williard DeRainville, was at the control of the small CASE bulldozer at about 8 p.m. Saturday on Saint-Rosaire Street, bear Chemin de la Savanne.

Authorities had been on the lookout for the machine after receiving a number of calls an hour earlier of a bulldozer travelling in an erratic fashion near Les Promenades Gatineau shopping centre.

DeRainville was charged with motor vehicle theft, possession of property obtained criminally and impaired driving.

The mechanic was released on bail on condition he only keep his work tools on the job, with a specific request from the crown that he not have screwdrivers, hammers or crowbars outside of work hours.
