Three elderly people were injured Tuesday, one of them seriously, in a two-car collision at Hazeldean and Carp roads in Stittsville.

Officials said the crash occurred at about noon when the car carrying the victims was T-boned by a pickup truck.

Ottawa firefighters were called to extricate the injured people, an ordeal that lasted about 25 minutes.

A 77-year-old woman was taken to hospital in serious, but stable condition with a fractured arm and other traumatic injuries. Two others in the car, an 80-year-old woman, and 81-year-old man were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, 21-year-old man, was treated on scene by paramedics but did not require hospitalization.

The investigation continues.
