Provincial police are investigating the death of a Nepean man who died just after he finished a scuba dive in the St. Lawrence River.
The man was with a group of scuba divers at the Rothesay wreck site east of the village of Maitland in Augusta Township.
As the group was coming out of the water, the man was seen to be “in distress,” police said. Other divers brought him to shore and called an ambulance, but he was pronounced dead when he reached the hospital.
His name hasn’t been released.
The Rothesay is a wooden passenger vessel that sank after a collision in 1889. The upper part of the wreck is 20 feet below the surface, and the deepest part is 30 feet down.
