Ottawa firefighters were at 1688 Montreal Rd. on Sunday night, trying to bring a blaze at the Beacon Hill Motel under control.
Multiple 911 calls were received at around 7 p.m. about visible flames at the side of the motel, and the responding district chief ordered a working fire while en route when he saw smoke and flames from a distance.
The flames had already spread to the roof by the time crews arrived on scene.
Early reports suggested about six motel units were uninhabitable because of the fire but there were no reports of injuries.
