A Gatineau police officer was fired Wednesday after pleading guilty in April to illegally accessing police records.

Const. Chantal Lacroix pleaded guilty to the charge of unauthorized use of a computer in a Quebec court in April. She received an absolute discharge from the court, resulting in no jail time but had to make an immediate donation of $1,000 to the assistance centre for victims of crime.

According to police, Lacroix accessed the Police Information Centre of Quebec and Versadex databases six times between Aug. 5, 2013 and Feb. 24, 2014 to check information on three individuals following a broken friendship.

The accessed information was not passed on to a third party and Lacroix received no benefit as a result of her actions, police said

The Gatineau Police Service emphasized that it “requires its police officers meet the highest ethical standards and professional standards,” in a statement released Wednesday.
