Premier Kathleen Wynne waded into near-unprecedented territory Thursday, serving up her candid thoughts on Donald Trump’s presidential bid, saying the presumptive Republican nominee would be a danger to Canada and to the world.

According to a report in the Toronto Star, Wynne made the remarks during an interview at the Canadian embassy while on an official visit, saying a Trump presidency would be “destabilizing for the continent.”

“I think that a candidate for the presidency of the United States who is intent on being divisive, who is intent on ignoring the realities of the global economy, and doesn’t see the benefit of an inclusive, pluralistic society – I think it’s very dangerous for Canada, and I think it’s dangerous for the world,” Wynne said in the interview, the Star reported.

Wynne met with influential Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, and while Wynne declined to endorse Hillary Clinton, and didn’t mention Trump by name, she left little doubt about her preference for the next U.S. president.

She called Trump’s promise to rip up the North American Free Trade Agreement as “unrealistic protectionism,” and said, “I think we need to find ways of working together, not being hostile to one another.”

She also blasted Trump’s controversial views on Muslims, including his repeated pledge to institute a temporary ban on Muslims’ entering the country.

“That kind of rhetoric that is, again, so divisive, and so out of touch, I think, with the reality of our combined population. And it really is a very different tone than we’ve heard before in American elections,” Wynne said, according to the Star.

Wynne acknowledged the upcoming presidential election “causes me anxiety in terms of what the outcome could be.”
