Firefighters sent a water rescue team to help a kayaker who was struggling in the strong current of the Ottawa River’s Deschênes Rapids on Thursday evening.
Ottawa Fire Services received a 911 call at 6:41 p.m., and firefighters on both sides of the river dispatched rescue teams, launching boats upriver and downriver from the distressed kayaker.
A nearby boater managed to get the kayaker into his craft and returned him to shore on the Gatineau side of the river, according to fire officials. There were no injuries.
