If you made it through the muck and the mud, there was always the barbed wire to contend with. And if that didn’t stop you, there were the obstacle courses to look forward to and also that bit about jumping fire.

The Spartan Sprint Race held at Edelweiss Valley near Wakefield on Saturday was certainly one for the hardy only, and there they all were in scorching conditions, testing themselves as they pushed for the finish line.

And if any participant failed to rise to the challenge at hand, the rules of engagement required that 30 burpees — a pushup and a jumping Jack in one fluid motion — be performed every time an obstacle was skipped or not completed.
