Ottawa broke out the Pride colours Thursday with a Rainbow Crosswalk at the intersection of Bank Street and Somerset Street West.

“Projects like this allow Ottawa residents to incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion in their day-to-day lives,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “The Rainbow Crosswalks, especially in the wake of the Orlando tragedy, are a visual demonstration that Ottawa is a welcoming city for the LGBTQ community, and a city for everyone.”

The crosswalk displays the rainbow colours of the Pride Flag, using a “thermoplastic material used will last for approximately five years.”

The crosswalks were installed through a partnership between the city and the the Bank Street BIA.

“I’m pleased that the city and the business community have worked together to make this Rainbow Crosswalk a permanent reality,” said Coun. Catherine McKenney. “Not only does it deliver a strong message to the local LGBTQ community, but it further beautifies the gay village and reflects the contributions of residents and businesses in the area.”
