James Narbonne never considered himself a lucky man. That is, until the Rockland resident found out last Thursday he had won just over $2 million in the lottery.

“It was unbelievable. I just couldn’t believe it,” said Narbonne, who referred to the win as a “game-changer” for him and his wife, Maria.

Narbonne has religiously purchased tickets for the Ontario 49 jackpot twice weekly for the past 10 years. It was while buying tickets at a Canadian Tire gas station for Saturday’s draw that he found out all six of the numbers from Wednesday’s draw matched his old ticket.

“I started shaking a bit,” said Narbonne, describing a wave of congratulations from the sales attendant and other customers.

Shortly after receiving instruction from Ontario Lottery and Gaming officials over the phone, Narbonne called his wife to share the news.

“She didn’t believe me. It took her a couple of hours to believe it,” he said. “My wife and I always talk about what we would do if we won the lottery. And look at us now.”

Despite the huge cheque, Narbonne plans on sticking with his job as a furnace and air conditioner salesman.

“I have no plans to retire early. My wife is a teacher and she feels the same way. Our work is important to us but it’s so good to know we can sit comfortably now,” he said.

Narbonne said his plans for the $2,000,500 include paying down the mortgage on his house, trips to Nova Scotia’s Cabot Trail and sunny Barbados, and buying his wife a jeep.
