Power outages throughout the city are leaving more than 2,000 customers in the dark Saturday as thunderstorms rumble across the National Capital Region.
Hydro Ottawa said 542 customers are affected by power outages in the Quinpool, Cherrywood and Laurentide area in Ottawa’s west-end. The estimated time of restoration was 12 p.m.
The areas of Terry Fox Drive, Fernbank and Robert Grant are also experiencing power outages. Hydro Ottawa said crews were performing emergency switching to restore service to the 1,147 customers affected. The estimated time of restoration was 3:30 p.m.
Power is also shutdown in the downtown area near Elgin, Gladstone, McLeod and Deleware, with 695 customers affected as of 10:45 a.m. Estimated time of restoration was 12 p.m.
Meanwhile, the forecast for the weekend is a wet one. Environment Canada predicted showers or thunderstorms throughout Saturday, with a high of 23 C and winds blowing northeast at 20 km/h. At night, the weather agency forecasted more showers or thuderstorms, with a low of 15 C.
It’s expected to be more of the same Sunday, with a high of 21 C, clouds and a 60 per cent chance of showers during the day, and a low of 12 C and clear at night.
