Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Ottawa, Gatineau and for much of eastern Ontario and west Quebec.
The warning was issued just before 4 p.m. Friday afternoon for Ottawa, Gatineau, Cornwall, Morrisburg, Alexandria, Renfrew, Pembroke, Barry’s Bay, Smiths Falls, Sharbot Lake and Lanark.
The weather agency said in the warning that large hail, damaging winds and heavy downpours were possible, and that people in these areas should take the necessary precautions.
The storm was expected to move east at 60 km/h.
“Some of these storms may contain isolated damaging wind gusts,” the weather agency advisor said. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
