One person is in custody after a man was killed in what police are describing as an “altercation” in the west end Saturday.

It would be the 10th homicide of the year.

Police said they received a 911 call at 4:48 p.m. to report gunfire on the 100 block of Winthrop Private, a few blocks from the Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre.

Initial reports were that officers discovered two men who had been wounded but Duty Insp. Mark Patterson said later that there was one victim.

He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Patterson confirmed that one person was in custody.

While the initial reports mentioned gunfire, Pattersomn would not confirm guns were involved in the incident.

The major crimes squad is in charge of the investigation.
