Police have released without charges a man they arrested Saturday at the scene of a homicide on Winthrop Private near Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre.

Jeremy Mack, 36, died of stab wounds after an altercation that occurred around 5 p.m. He was found without vital signs and later died in hospital. Mack, the father of a young girl and who was still mourning the death of his partner in January, Jasmine Gagnon, is Ottawa’s 10th homicide victim of 2016.

Police were initially called when neighbours heard gunfire. Although a handgun was found and seized at the crime scene, police don’t believe it was used in the killing.

The police investigation is ongoing.
