Ottawa Police brought the canine unit out late Sunday night to track down a suspect who managed to steal a police cruiser.
The car was nabbed while officers were pursuing a suspect who was seen fleeing a commercial break-and-enter in Westboro, an Ottawa Police spokesperson said.
After a short vehicle pursuit, officers chased the suspect on foot. An altercation took place, but the suspect escaped, backtracked, and managed to steal the cruiser.
The police car was later found abandoned. The canine unit was mobilized to track the suspect.
The suspect was located across the Quebec border in Aylmer and taken into custody.
Rumours had been circulating on social media that a police officer was shot during the pursuit, but Ottawa Police said no officers were shot.
