Brace yourself, another heat wave is on the horizon for the Ottawa Valley.

Environment Canada issued a heat warning for the Ottawa area on Monday.

Starting Tuesday afternoon, warm, humid air will descend upon the city. Temperatures are expected to rise to about 32 C, with a humidex reading of 34.

The humidity and daytime-high temperatures ranging from 32 to 34 are expected to linger until Friday.

Environment Canada said this might be “the longest and most significant heat wave of the summer so far.”

Ottawans won’t get much relief overnight, either, with lows expected to be in the 20s into Friday.

Showers and thunderstorms may move through the Valley sometime Friday, with a 40-per-cent chance of rain forecast. Environment Canada said if the rain comes, Ottawa could see a reprieve from the heat just in time for the weekend.

It reminded residents to frequently visit neighbours, friends and the elderly — especially those who are ill — to make sure they’re keeping cool and hydrated since there’s an increased risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke when a heat warning is in effect.

Environment Canada advised that outdoor activities be planned or rescheduled for cooler parts of the day to avoid heat-related illnesses and also stressed that you should never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight when temperatures are high.
