Gatineau police suspect that five boys 14 to 16 years old arrested at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday while ransacking a car are responsible for thefts from about 15 cars in the city overnight.
Detectives say the young gang, travelling by bicycle, cut a swath across the city checking out more than 60 vehicles. They found 15 with unlocked doors and helped themselves.
Police found cash and e-cigarettes on the teens.
Police also said some of those arrested are suspected of being part of a “wave” of similar thefts in the area over the past two weeks.
Detectives ask that anyone whose vehicle was robbed in the area over the past few weeks to check with Det.-Sgt. Simon Richer 819-243-2345, ext. 7681.
Investigators say there may be further arrests.
