If you’re in the Glebe on Thursday night and you hear the sound of roaring aircraft overhead, don’t worry — the city is not under attack.

CF-18 Hornets will be conducting a flyby over TD Place at the beginning of the Ottawa Redblacks game at 7:30 p.m., as part of the team’s Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Game.

The aircraft will come in from the west side of the stadium and fly “at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest point of its route,” said the Royal Canadian Air Force, before resuming a higher flying altitude for its return to a military base in Quebec.

“Flybys by Canadian Armed Forces aircraft are conducted in support of special events and are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure public safety at all times,” said RCAF in a release.

A planned CF-18 Hornet flyby during a Redblacks game last October caused alarm and panic among Glebe residents, prompting an apology from the air force and the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, which owns the Redblacks.
