Cyclist, 24, killed in downtown collision with truck

Ottawa police have closed the intersection of Lyon Street and Laurier Avenue after a truck struck a 24-year-old woman on a bicycle early Thursday.

According to paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene just before 8 a.m.

Initial reports from the scene indicate the victim was pinned under a dumptruck.

Police have taken over and an investigation into the incident has begun.


Update on collision at Laurier and Lyon. The cyclist has died. Area will be closed for several hours.

The death has sparked outrage from at least two city councillors who took to Twitter early Thursday to announce a protest at Marion Dewar Plaza at noon Thursday.
